Your Life in Newspaper Headlines | The Telegraph Edition

We do. We don’t edit history. Unless there was no newspaper produced on that day (more on that below), we include the headline whatever it is. We think that every headline is an important puzzle piece in history, and to skip over the not-so-nice ones would mean tampering with the story.

Yes, but there are a few small caveats to this rule. Due to things like strikes and public holidays, sometimes a newspaper was simply not printed on a specific day.

Details below:
• If you're ordering for a birthday after 1998, your birthday newspaper book will include 25 historical newspaper front pages, each followed by a blank scrapbook page. Handy for scribbling down stories and memories and attaching old photos.

• These newspaper reproductions are created from the Telegraph scan archive and, in some instances, there will be blemishes. The reproduction quality may not be as clear or precise as it might be when copying directly from the original paper.

• The birthday newspaper book will only include this year's birthday page if it is ordered 30 days after the selected date.

• No newspapers are printed on Christmas Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday or during strikes, in which case a front page from the day after will be used. Papers are also occasionally withdrawn for legal reasons.

• Sunday papers did not enter publication until February 1961. Any birthday that falls on a Sunday before this date will be replaced by a headline from an alternative day, but your edition will include any Sunday headlines from February 1961 onward.

We can make books for people with birthdays from 1920 onwards (and we set the latest ‘start year’ as 1998 - anyone born later than this would have a very slim book!). Before this date, the quality of the newspapers gets a little patchy as they’re so old. So unless you’re buying for somebody like Bob Weighton (the last person to hold the record for the oldest person living, who was born in 1908 and reached the grand old age of 112), you should be OK. The book will include headlines up to the last month: so if their birthday is 20th February 1971 and you order a book on the 21st March, your book will have a page from every year including this year.
